We dropped anchor about a mile offshore at Buzios at 7:30 this morning. It is already 80 degrees.
Historical/Background Info:
Buzios is on
a peninsula sticking out from Brazil 100 miles east of Rio. Its population is around 35,000. Today, Buzios is a worldwide tourist site. It remained almost unknown until 1964 when
Bridget Bardot made this resort town with a long string of beautiful beaches
famous when she vacationed here in the 1960’s to escape the paparazzi. It actually has 23 beaches and an active
nightlife, shopping, and restaurants. It
is a popular weekend get-away for the young people from nearby Rio and Sao Paulo. We were here in 2012.
LAST EVENING
I had to have a Brazilian drink when in Rio. This is a Caipirinha!! I had several of them on my 36 hour layovers in Sao Paulo when I was working, It is cachaca (sugar cane brandy in Brazil), sugar, and lime.
Our jalapeno poppers.
Orchestral members playing in the Meridian Lounge during cocktail hour.
Bread basket offer every night.
Chicken and vegetable spring rolls to start with. Excellent!
Cheers!!
We both had the beef bourguignon for our entrees.
Dessert was this chocolate profiteroles with some more vanilla ice cream.
Again I was first one to enter the theater when the doors opened. Got same front row seats.
TODAY
Interesting roof on this cart.
Our ship in bay.
Jeff, here are some girls for you!!
They were featuring Indian foods in La Veranda today. Not my cup of tea! I started with some shrimp and muscles.
I went out to the pool grill and ordered some Buffalo chicken wings. Two orders in fact!! They were delicious. I also got some potato salad and cole slaw.
There is another cruise ship anchored here with us today. I believe it is a MSC ship. Too far to read the name of her.
Sunny and 91 degrees this afternoon.
I went to see Gudrun, one of the cruise consultants, to book some more cruises for 2027. We have known Gudrun for many years. I booked NYC to London (actually port is at Southhampton) for June 1, 2027. 14 nights transatlantic on this ship, Splendor. Will stay on for the next segment, London to London. 12 more nights. This cruise visits ports in Scotland and Ireland.
We will be sailing again earlier than normal at 4:30. Tomorrow will be only the second day at sea so far on the cruise.
Tonight's Compass Rose menu. We will be dining here again tonight after our cocktails in Meridian Lounge. Tonight's show is featuring John Lenahan, a comedian. Not our favorite kind of show but we may give it a try. Will sit in the back in case we want to leave early.
