PORTO BELO, BRAZIL - DAY 5

Our position this morning is shown by the circle about mid way on both maps.  I heard them lowing the tenders around 6:30 before our alarm clock went off at 7am.
Kind of a yukky morning weather-wise.  Overcast and 70 degrees.
This is one of the tenders (life boats) that was lowered just below our suite.  It will take guests to shore for their tours.

Historical/Background Info:

Not much to say about this quaint fishing village with a very nice beaches featuring emerald green waters.  Brazilians, Argentines, and Europeans come here during the summer months for swimming and diving.  It is at the base of lush mountains.  There are shops on the wharf and you can walk and tour village in about 5 minutes.  Basically, this is an inexpensive place to park the ship for a day.  I would have rather spent two days at our next port, Santos, which is the port for excursions into the capital of Brazil, Sao Paulo.  We were here in 2012 & 2016.

LAST EVENING

We skipped the block party and went directly to the Meridian Lounge for our cocktail hour.
We were supposed to have pigs in a blanket but they brought us jalapeno poppers again.  No problem.  Poppers are really good.
Rommel, a long time friend, came down to say hi.  He is the bartender up in the Explorer Lounge.
Back to Compass Rose for dinner.  Kas has some of our La Crema waiting for us.  Again we dined at Reymark's station.  He is so good!!

I started with the creamy corn & poblano chili soup.  We both had a Caesar salad.  Dressing on the side so we could add tabasco sauce to it.  I asked for 5 extra anchovies and got them!
Rebecca had this szechuan beef stir fry with broccoli, basil oyster sauce, red peppers, cashews, and Jasmine rice.
I had the chicken a la Kiev with braised cabbage.  Mashed potatoes also.
                                                               Here is the dessert menu.
I had this delicious malva pudding.  Yummy!
The theater doors open at 9:00 for the 9:30 shows.  If it is a show we really want to see (like this one), we enter at 9:00 so we can get a front row seat.
Our cruise director, Natalie, is introducing tonight's show.

And what a show it was!!  Absolutely, the BEST tango show I have ever seen.  After the show they were at the theater exits and we complimented them for their incredible show.  They will have another show in a few days and we plan to be on the front row again.  Not sure what is wrong with our fellow passengers as Rebecca and I were the only two to give them a standing ovation.

TODAY

Of course I started the morning by running down to coffee connection to get our Americano coffees to help get our hearts started.  Room service showed up early at 7:25.  Rebecca shared half of her omelet with me.  It is certainly big enough for two.
You probably are wondering what the time difference is for us here so far on our cruise.  We are 3 hours ahead of Dallas time.  So it is right now 8am here and 5am in Dallas.  We get FOX NEWS on our tv.  It is the international version but same shows.  Watching The Five this morning.

Here are the other channel choices.
                                                             There are other choices.
I was watching this tender approach from the shore and it looks to be a pretty rough ride.  When along side for boarding it was really bobbing around.  I'll be surprised if no one gets hurt today.  Glad I do not have a tour today due to this and the weather.  There are only 3 tours to select from here.  I was scheduled for one that was a pay-extra that included a lunch but turned the ticket in and got a refund a couple days ago.  The weather and seas did improve as the day went on.
By 10:30 the weather has improved.  Happy for the folks on tours.  I did some work on my laptop this morning and Rebecca went to the treadmill   We both then got cleaned up for the day.  Rebecca will watch yesterday's Young & Restless soap before lunch.
My back is great when I first get up in the mornings.  But after sitting while doing work on the laptop and getting up and down it gets worse.
Our son, Jeff, likes to see menus so here is the lunch menu up in the La Veranda buffet.  There are also all kinds of salads, sandwiches, breads, desserts, and other goodies.  The pool grill also has pizza, burgers, salads, hot dogs, other hot sandwiches, and lots more.  We will have lunch in La Veranda.

Some jet skiers came out to check us out.
Got both Young & Restless and Bold & Beautiful (yesterday shows) watched before going to lunch.  I also called Spectrum to make sure texting was free here in Brazil.  They said it is.
My plan was to have some lobster nachos and chicken wings from the pool grill but decided on this.  Empanada, guacamole, and of course, anchovies to start with.
Then some pork spare ribs, Cuban fried chicken, and potatoes.  To wash that down, I did go out to the pool grill and grabbed a slice of pizza.
Strange looking boat passing by.  There were several pleasure motor boats and lots of water skies passing by today.
This is tonight's Compass Rose menu.  Nothing really grabbed us so we asked for a 7pm reservation in the Pacific Rim, Asian restaurant.  Pretty sure it was all booked up, but for us, they found room.
Again, Jeff will want to see that menu.  Here are the starters.  I will definitely order the crispy soft shell crab.  Maybe an Alaskan king crab roll too.
Fish & seafood options.  Miso black cod probably for us.
                                                                             Meats
                                                                              Sides
This afternoon Rebecca went up to read her book in the library where it was quiet.  I watched a GREAT movie called "Eight Below".  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eight_Below
I highly recommend it if you are or are not a dog lover.  Hope you can find it somewhere.
It is about 4pm now.  We are supposed to sail again at 4:00 but the tenders are still out.  Looks like a little delay.  We actually sailed at 4:30.  It 265 miles to our next port, Santos, Brazil, the port for Sao Paulo with a 8am scheduled arrival.  But it's probably an hour bus ride to Sao Paulo.  The tour there is an 8 hour one.  I checked the weather forecast and it calls for rain.
Bringing the last tender back on board.
Meridian Lounge again at 6pm for cocktails followed at 7:00 for dinner in the Pacific Rim restaurant.  The show tonight is the guitarist's second show.  Not sure if we will go to this one.

HOMEWARD BOUND - MARCH 13TH
